James, article...Intel rolling out flip-chip microprocessor form factor...

June 9, 1999

ELECTRONIC BUYERS NEWS : According to customers briefed late last week by Intel Corp., the chip giant will add flip-chip versions of its microprocessors to create what it refers to in its roadmap as "new, innovative form factors" for PCs. Intel will introduce 370-pin flip-chip versions of both the 600- and 550-MHz mainstream Pentium III microprocessors in the fourth quarter, while a 650-MHz flip-chip Pentium III will be shipped in the first quarter of 2000. All flip-chip offerings will use a 100-MHz bus; a 418-pin flip-chip option is under consideration for faster speeds and multiprocessor capabilities, sources said.
