'modern era' - yes, P was quite radical for his time, and these figures do seem to have an air of waiting for something - an answer, or an event to come .... i always think of the artist, what was s/he like? ... central question being - Would i like to have a beer with this guy? ... with Picasso or Rivera i think i would even have sprung for the first round ..... the father of a friend of a friend had some mundane dealings with Rivera, and through them met his wife Frida Kahlo [also an artist] and, he claims, Leon Trotsky. P and R met each other in 1914, this says - diegorivera.com ... interesting story there in 1933 with Rockefeller and 'Man At Crossroads ...' [this was reproduced in the Palacio de Bellas Artes, can be seen daily, everyone knows the story, and the story really fits it].
