It's a matter of attaching "smartish" terminals (whose degree of intelligence will depend on their primary function) to a highly reliable distributed fabric of compute power that is local when you want it to be and global when you don't.

If you read the above you'll see quite clearly there is no definition of the size or makeup of the iron nor of the networking hierarchy that comprises the fabric. The "fabric" will be a net formation of heterogenous systems; shall be independant of iron vendor.

As we develop better interconnect fabrics we will not need to depend on centralized architectures.
