I certainly didn't like or use the first generation PC much and I certainly don't want to use the first generation JavaStation, thank you very much. The first PC had a novelty affect, as I'm sure the JavaStation probably has but we all know that most first generation products are lacking, to put it nicely.

The reason I say the "Desktop" becomes more obsolete each day is because computing, from a traditional sense has changed dramatically over the last 20 years. Laptop, palmtop, javastation, scanning terminals, STBs and many other devices now replace what was traditionally the "desktop" and the environments that these products are used in have also undergone dramatic changes.

There's many situations where you need desktop power these days and there are many others where you are much better off in a server-centric environment. I could go on for days discussing different approaches to the same problem with the positives and negatives of each solution. In most cases, the customer or user will select what's right for them, given the opportunity to do so.
