This cyberworld is a new reality, one we are all still learning. Butting into other people's conversations is unthinkable in certain contexts (e.g., reading other people's mail, tapping into their telephones, putting microphones in their houses) and expected in other contexts (e.g., sitting around in the living room during a party).

I don't think giving unsolicited lectures is acceptable in any social context, and I don't think it's acceptable here. The people with whom I have had the most social difficulty here in cyberspace are people who feel it is their right to lecture me without first feeling me out to determine whether I wish to be lectured.

Interestingly, aa has not lectured me. If you care to read her interchanges with me, you might find them interesting. They were brief, and I don't expect her to keep after me, although she may comment on this post. She will keep after those who debate her, though. I think, anyway.

And of course, you and I recently had a brush with someone who insists on expressing his erudition regardless of whether one expresses an interest. It is difficult for me to suffer fools gladly, and for you, I think. Maybe we are just getting old and curmudgeonly.
