Steve, here I disagree. When Dr. Irwin Jacobs, head of QUALCOMM, was interviewed last Monday on the public television "Nightly Business Report," he talked about an increasing number of computing tasks that would be accomplished with wireless equipment. He was suggesting that QUALCOMM's CDMA system, particularly when it moves into the third generation broadband wireless arena, will become the platform of choice for a great deal of information search, retrieval, and transmission. Flash memory is the ideal replacement for more conventional disk drives in these applications because it uses much less power and has much better reliability. Would flash memory substitute eventually for DRAM? That I don't know because I'm not an engineer, but it seems to me that if read/write times become shorter, such an application is also possible.
