Eric, you made a good point. I am an @home subscriber. It is an excellent connection, but that is all it is from the user's perspective. I am not using the athm home page because when I make it the home page everytime I launch my browser this bothersome java app is downloaded that spawns another window with the athm home page. That is real time consuming, especially when I am working in SI. The other thing is that the @home page is useless. There is nothing useful or different there.

I am out of ATHM for now. I am beginning to think that investing in ISPs of any sort is not wise (anymore). Investing in the providers of infrastructure seems to be the more profitable course (BRCM, CNXT, UNPH, PMCS, CSCO, WCOM...)

All my own opinion, and I am long on most of the securities I just mentioned.

First they need to provide a reliable high speed link. Just consistent "It works, and works right" stuff. They need to show the world how it should be done.

Indeed, I've had the service for a month and have had more down time than the last 5 years of dial up, excluding a major backbone problem.
I am documenting every problem I encounter because I am getting very frustrated with their service people. They are nice and everything but always want to run me through the same drill of resetting my modem and checking to see if my cable is not unplugged, duh! And it is always a problem on their end. I finally have reached the point where the first thing I tell them is I have reset the modem etc, etc. All in all I really like cable and I am trying to be patient as it is new to my area. I wish I didn't have to keep my ISP for now but I cannot yet "trust" the cable service. I sure hope they can get this to be reliable enough that I don't have to keep my ISP.
