Common errors in American English.

How can so many obviously highly intelligent people (on SI) spell so poorly? Much of higher intelligence is pattern recognition, if IQ tests are any gauge. Spelling is the recognition of letter patterns, that we see over and over. But then, perhaps I should not be so critical. I cannot remember telephone numbers, or nearly any other numbers for that matter, and must write them all down.

I am quick to forgive individuals here for whom English is clearly not their native tongue, and give them credit for even participating, but how 'bout dem reg'lar 'mericans? It certainly can be hard to decipher some of the content here on SI because of this communication carelessness.
