Heineken Wins VICS 1999 Best in Logistics Award For Logility Developed HOPS
System

CHICAGO, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Logility (Nasdaq: LGTY), the leading
supplier of collaborative value chain planning solutions via the Internet
announced today that Heineken has been awarded the VICS 1999 Best in Logistics
Award with the help of the Heineken Operational Planning System (HOPS)
developed by Logility. The VICS (Voluntary Interindustry Commerce Standards)
Executive Committee voted overwhelmingly for Heineken to receive this honor
for developing and implementing innovative systems and practices dedicated to
cost effective service and supply chain improvement.
"We are pleased to be able to help companies such as Heineken reengineer
their supply chain processes to an award-winning status," said Mike Edenfield,
CEO of Logility. "Heineken is a model client for Logility, showcasing the
benefits of an Internet-based collaborative planning system."
The award was sponsored by Manhattan Associates (Nasdaq: MANH) and was
presented to Heineken at the VICS 1999 Conference. Other companies considered
for this award included Genco Distribution System, Stride Rite and American
Greetings Corporation.
HOPS was designed to improve communication between Heineken and customers,
correct irregular inventory management and improve business systems and
processes. The issues Heineken faced in delivering product resulted in a 12-
week lead-time. In order to better meet customer demand in a highly volatile
market, Heineken re-engineered its business processes and implemented an
Internet based collaborative planning system called HOPS (Heineken Operational
Planning System), developed by Logility. This Web-based solution linked
distributors to Heineken USA. Logility's Demand and Supply Chain Voyager
allowed distributors around the country to share forecasts, order products,
improve communication and replenish beer supplies through the Internet using
Web browsers and ordinary desktop PCs. No special hardware or proprietary
network connections were required.
Using information technology to coordinate and manage all aspects of the
supply chain, from order processing to shipping, to fulfillment and delivery,
Heineken USA reduced lead time from 12 to 4 weeks (67%) within six months and
has seen a 20% increase in sales force productivity. Using HOPS, Heineken can
calculate demand and manage the supply of product to meet it, with an improved
forecast accuracy of 12% (from 20% to 8% error). The national importer can
now guarantee on-time deliveries within five percent of confirmed orders.
Heineken USA now has a 12-week rolling window of expected inventories,
shipments and orders. HOPS serves as an integrated planning tool, enabling
regional marketing and national brand managers to directly manage and
influence sales events and promotional campaigns in a timely and cost
effective manner. The system is used by all 450 Heineken distributors.
Key Applications within the Logility Value Chain Solutions suite include
Demand Planning, Inventory Planning, Replenishment Planning, Manufacturing
Planning & Scheduling, Event Planning(TM), Demand Chain Voyager, Supply Chain
