Stanley Tucci plays Puck in the new "Midsummer Night's Dream." He is the best thing in it. The setting has been changed from ancient Athens to 19th century Italy, which many have criticised. Tucci's gestures and mannerisms remain irrepressibly late 20th century. He's kind of a hip deconstructionist chorus commenting on the action, which is amusing because the character he plays is also kind of a chorus commenting on the action, so there's a self-referential mockery to his performance which is entertaining. Kevin Kline is also wildly entertaining as Bottom, the scene-munching attention-hogging actor who is conjured by Puck into a donkey (he is already an ass), before the Queen of Fairies is bewitched into falling in love, lust or limerance with him.

Someone was telling me about a British black comedy on pbs last night where they got a new cast and changed scenes every ten or twelve weeks because everybody died. I really want to watch it.

Tucci is a great actor. Surely you saw him in the movie about the Italian restaurant... Big Night, isn't it? That one's fun. Waking Ned Devine reminded me a bit of The Secret of Roan Inish, which I think is another great little movie. I'll have to look for Imposters and The Alarmist.

Did you ever get down to Fullerton to take care of things? I keep forgetting to ask.
