The new architecture, featuring an open, easy-to-use development environment, will allow wireless service providers and commercial developers to quickly respond to demands for IP-based voice, data and video services. The architecture includes custom hardware from Motorola NSS; MCG's award-winning CPX8216 PowerPC high-availability computing platform; and Sun's ChorusOS(TM) real-time operating system, Solaris(TM) operating environment, high-availability and IP services and Java Dynamic Management(TM) Software Kit.

The above is telling me that the open architecture is a unified messaging system that MOT already has. Sun's new operating system will run the wireless handhelds. I feel fairly confident that Sun will at the very least have the AOL connection available on the units. Remember that SUN and AOL have partnered and are or have jointly created a new non windows operating system with a small foot print so AOL might well be right in the middle of the MOT deal.

We know that AOL has already stated that the handheld market is one they are going after this year so this makes sense to me.

IMO
