We've had that same problem in our neighborhood - you really have to watch the chemicals that go on the lawn. After putting nothing down for about 15 years, I had the lawn aerated twice, seed, weed control, etc. Looks great, but will only do it once, then back to very careful weed control without the yard becoming nitrogen-dependent. Never spray the trees, but do cut back overgrowth. Have found that so many trees planted now-a-days are not native to an area, hence the problems. Have also found that a local lawn service, rather than the chains/franchises are much better and more caring.
