>Wonder what MS will do with battlecom between now and when DirectX 8 comes out...
Promote the hell out of it and include it, not embedded, with every game they release would be my guess. Although BattleCom won't officially be available as part of the OS until next summer, Thrustmaster doesn't even have that long. Watch for the retail version to come out backed by MSFT's awesome marketing power - now you will seen how you really market something. Endcaps, every retail store, ads, specials, etc. Not these wimpy banner ads and pathetic "oh we got someone to carry it" press releases. And no BS about retail not being important.

It doesn't help Thrustmaster at all that they have such inferior technology and no fans, to say the least. Netscape at least was even.
TMSR can't get into the inevitable "free" war that MSFT will fight to become the de facto standard for all consumer internet stuff.
>Also wonder if they will ship DirectX 8 upgrade for Win9X before Win2000 comes out...
They did before with Win98, so I should see no reason not to repeat - the idea is to push the standard as soon as possible - they want people hooked on the features to get all gamers and techheads to upgrade as soon as possible. They want people to switch to Win2000, and BC will be a part of the leverage on gamers.
They actually already mentioned the upcoming seperate release of DirectPlay, which will presumably include it.
