<I don't think we will see a june announcement, or as you said maybe a very small one kept nice and quiet to appease shareholders, but not alert the public.>

Since the public includes the shareholders, how do you make a "nice and quiet" announcement to the shareholders without the public (i.e. the press) turning it into big news?

Steve - RE: "...I don't think we will see a june announcement, or as you said maybe a very small one kept nice and quiet to appease shareholders, but not alert the public."

Here are my guesses:

The processor is announced before the end of the month.

CyberMax will be the only company who will have K7 systems for sale, initially.

AMD will mention Compaq, but that those systems won't be available until July.

Once Compaq systems are available, AMD will start some type of marketing to let the public know the K7 is faster than the current PIII.

These are just guesses based on AMD's past history (and unfortunately we know AMD follows its history) of releasing processors. I have no knowledge nor contacts within AMD and am basing this on what I have read.

RE: launch date
Steve Porter: "I am now getting very strong indications that June is almost certainly out and realistically mid july is the most likely time..."
Toni Beckman (AMD Investor Relations): "AMD will launch its AMD-K7 processor this month."

Interpretation 1: Some of the MB makers were not going to use the AMD Irongate chipset. Perhaps VIA or Acer has slipped & they're pissed.

Interpretation 2: AMD having problems making the Irongate, or a late-discovered problem with it, or its production.

Interpretation 3: misinformation

Interpretation 4: Toni doesn't know yet
