Re: Qwest + US West / Frontier

June 8 — A U.S. Appeals Court Tuesday agreed that a 1996 law barred regional Bell companies like Ameritech Corp. and US West from selling
long distance service from Qwest Communications International Inc.

Jun 14 -- U S West shares soared in London Monday after Qwest Communications leap-frogged Global Crossing's bid for the baby Bell.... Qwest also intends to wrest Frontier Corp from Global Crossing's clutches. Frontier's stock was untraded.

Thread,
Well let's see. June 8th is less than one week ago. And todays merger between a LD and ILEC is, as we now know, Qwest putting in an offer to buy US West and Frontier. Nacchio is making the customary round of interviews saying how it will do great things for everyone involved, blah, blah, blah. And as usual, no one asks him about the FCC problem. And we get to hear about this for the next 24 hours. This is getting weird.

I want to keep a running link between my posts of these announced LD/ILEC type deals so I don't lose track and can thumb back through them all.

PS Nacchio did something I believe is unusual. He came right out and said he has the long distance backbone. And he needs the local loop that US West and Frontier offer. He didn't even attempt to hedge his words. Just blurted them right out for the FCC to hear.
