Brooke,

Stocks always fall faster than they go up. Shorts know this. Think of it this way, the long holders that were shaken out are now seeing the stock trading at higher levels than when they sold, do they wait to re-enter? All it takes is for a for a stock to fall further is buyers to stand on the sidelines. OTOH, we have a huge short position and they're seeing the stock forming another higher base, so it's decision time for them too. One thing's for certain, these stand-off's don't last forever, sooner or later the momentum starts up again after a leveling off.
