mb,

I have heard the 10 year number too. But 10 years is eternity when it comes to either semiconductor or company growth (386 to PIII in processor, 200kb to 256MB in memory, 16 Mb to 20 Gb in hard drives, DELL in '89 to DELL in '99).

With the internet I expect 3D eTail shopping to be here anytime. That would require serious processing speed. Also HTML is a baby and needs to be upgraded (but even XML is a baby). I haven't evaluated the memory requirements of Java with Swing yet to achieve acceptable performance.
