Well it has happened to me a few times over the months... usually when I say a stock might go down and some bull replies with "thats libelous... be prepared to be served", etc. Of course it never happens which makes me question if those individuals really were lawyers.

Here was one post recently from the qcom thread - not really a threat this time but still irritating,
but it is not only incorrect to call it "fiscal mismanagement," it is dangerous, is not at all constructive and borders on defamation.

I'm sure there are some lawyers that know something about investing but I have never seen any here on SI. If they are just going to sit around making idle threats then we are better off without them I say.

Cobalt,

what type of action or thoughts would the state bar association have regarding a lawyer who has threatened a lawsuit in the type of context that you mention.

And one further point, what are your thoughts about people who say that they will contact the SEC when they do not like the nature of another person's posts. THis happened in the case of Howard (ikegodsley)the other day.

TIA,

John

BTW, it's not ok for lawyers to threaten people with legal action just to win points. I
think if I were threatened by a lawyer, I'd ask for his name so I could report him to
his state bar association and see what they thought about it.
