New virus outbreaks reported as new work week begins
Associated Press - Posted at 11:02 a.m. PDT Monday, June 14, 1999

NEW YORK (AP) -- Computer support lines were overwhelmed today with
calls reporting new outbreaks of a software virus that spreads not
only by e-mail, but through shared files on a network.

Dashing hopes that Worm.Explore.Zip might be contained more quickly
than the recent Melissa outbreak, a leading antivirus team warned
that the new file-destroying bug may be more virulent than first
thought.

Last week, the primary means of infection seemed to be through a
friendly e-mail that tricks the recipient into opening an attached
file, uncaging Worm.Explore.Zip.
