Kap,

Re: "A good point about the Coppermine's performance being close to Xeon at one tenth the price. If you think that Intel is hurting because the Celeron sales are cannibalizing Pee-III, wait until Coppermine takes a byte out of the Xeon workstation sales."

I know Elmer wont dare post the numbers so I guess I will.

The following numbers are from DELL computers workstations:

PIII 500 Dell 410 specint = 20.4 specfp=14.3
no PIII 550numbers yet.

Xeon 500 Dell 610 specint = 21.6 specfp=16.2
Xeon 550 Dell 610 specint = 24.3 specfp=16.8

So the difference between 1/2 speed and full speed cache is not great.
I doubt if 600Mhz Coppermine with 256Kb full speed cache will smoke a Xeon 550 with twice as much full speed cache.

So elmers FUD that going to half the size and full speed cache is going to save intel is complete bunk.

regards,

Kash

Xeons are for SMP systems. No way to justify the price otherwise.
