I'd bet that, if enough reporters pick up on today's FDA/Merck "anti-Pfizer" thread (and investigate it in depth), a single day's lasting impression could cost Pfizer a bundle.

Not to imply that the impression would hold up over time.

But, aren't they being approved without the desired gut labeling?

FDA just being ultra-conservative. Trials basically showed same ulcer rate on endoscopy as placebo, but the FDA kept a weakened version of the old NSAID warning.

Celebrex is around $2 a dose, or $4 a day. Supposed to be comparable to existing patent-protected NSAIDS, but obviously much more than the generics.

From the MTC thread. Looks like $2.42 per day (wholesale) for Celebrex with Vioxx ranging from $2.38 to $2.52 per day (retail).
