Thomas - great post. It's amazing how the fish continue to bite on the same beat-up plastic worm.

The fact of the matter is that PRICE is the name of the game in consumer PCs. If an OEM can save $20 he will (ask Quantum). Besides, 32MB is fine for most Win 95/98 PCs. To wit:

I added another 32MB of RAM (for a total of 64MB) and saw no major (or minor) increase in computer speed. The 400i does fine with the standard 32MB... Taken from an MSNBC review of the eMachine 400i
