PHONE.COM INC (PHCM): Stock quotes, news, email, weather forecasts, yellow pages. Redwood City, CA-based Phone.com brings all this information to your cellular phone. Specifically, the company's software facilitates the delivery of Internet-based services over wireless telephones. Users of Phone.com's UP.Link Server Suite include some of the world's largest mobile phone companies, including Bell Atlantic Mobile, Deutsche Telekom Mobilnet, Nextel and GTE Wireless. AT&T Wireless Services is the company's biggest customer, accounting for 22% of total sales in 1998. AT&T Wireless also holds a minor stake in the company. The Offering: The IPO is scheduled to hit the market later this week, with CS First Boston serving as lead underwriter. Phone.com plans to sell 4 million shares at between $10 and $12 each. Assuming a $12 pricing, PHCM would carry a Price/Sales ratio (trailing twelve months) of 45.8... PHCM's growth has picked up dramatically over the past nine-months. The company is currently on track to more than quadruple fiscal 1998 revenue of $2.2 million. In 1998, PHCM lost $10.6 million or $2.03 a share, vs a 1997 loss of $8 mln or $1.67... Going forward, Phone.com faces stiff competition in the space from wireless equipment manufacturers Ericsson (ERICY) and Nokia (NOK/A). In addition, Microsoft (MSFT) appears to be circling overhead, recently announcing plans to introduce products and services that may compete directly with PHCM's offerings.
