I'd add that use of PSMs are only applicable to the DRAM sector. Logic has no choice but to go to more advanced steppers / scanners and masks much earlier.

Carl...good point (if you will pardon me for stepping in).. But the move to .13 micron is apparently being speeded up -- there is an announcement out somewhere about INTC's intent to go to .13 micron (and copper) by 2001...so CYMI (which I confess to having a ton of) is responding favorably.. Any PSM negatives have long since been factored in, imho, but they have for ETEC also, so I can't offer much that is useful on the weakness there.
As a thought -- how can ANY of the fabs avoid paying the price for the capital equipment, and for the masks?... if they don't pay the price, they lose that market, don't they? Nasty as it is to pay the huge mask costs, it seems to me that the choices are few... Just musing
