Anybody have any comments on the S3 thing?

Other than the patents, I can't think of one thing that S3 has to offer 3dfx. Looks like additional deadweight. I suppose an argument could be made for guaranteed fab space through UMC, but that seems to be a minor fringe benefit for the cost. On the surface this looks like a bonehead move. Any thoughts guys?

Pat

What about ATI buying S3? Wouldn't they would have more to gain than 3dfx since they are more of a direct competitor?
