Volatile times...

Laron, beta is a measure of a stock's volatility relative to a "yardstick". It is the standard deviation of a stock's prices (last say over 52 weeks) divided by the standard deviation of the SP-500.

Anything bigger than 1 means the stock is more volatile than the average. Less than one is a stock that doesn't do much at all. For example, gold prices have a low beta.

Hope that helps.
