I just saw a NATO tank on a Greek beach...Litohoron...Oh memories of childhood...it was at that beach that a bunch of Greek boys were going after cute Serb girls...we are talking yeeeeeears back...

and now tanks going to Kosovo to save Albanians.......how ironic and how bizzare?

Anyway, the beach is almost five minutes from the main highway that will lead to Skopje, FYROM. It is also away from Thessaloniki and its big port which is downtown and lots of cafes surround it....I could see the Greek dock workers sipping coffee and smoking cigarettes all of a sudden ordering ice cream, eggs and tomatoes to welcome the humanitarian bombers.

Anyway, what I said before still stands:

1. Kosovo will remain a part of Yugoslavia. No independence referendum crap. Borders stay as is.
2. There will be less Albanians in Kosovo. All the lucky people who left Kosovo for the West have already been doing their papers to bring their extended families with them (the key word is extended<g>). And I don't think a lot of them will go back, go back to what? On the contrary I think Nato may bus them back forcefully in order to show that they have achieved their main goal, to bring the Kosovars home (who were all in their homes before the bombing started).
3. The KLA's days are numbered. This will be difficult but Nato had to sign on to this, otherwise no deal. I heard some Nato official say that KLA has 3 options: lay down your weapons, lay down your weapons, lay down your weapons.
4. Reconstruction. Milosevic will be taken care off soon if that is what it takes in order to rebuild Serbia proper and not just Kosovo.

The latest negotiations (after hearing the Nato official talk) solidifid that Nato will protect ALL the ethnic civilians in Kosovo.

What's left to be determined is the Russian troop participation.

This is just what the Serbs got...

Plus a feeling of standing up to the mighty alliance for almost 3 months!!

This could have been negotiated by some competent diplomats and avoid the loss of life (about 2000 civilians dead..........hey, wait a minute this is how many dead were in Kosovo BEFORE the bombing since the KLA started terrorizing civilians and police!), incredible destruction and suffering, along with pissing everyone off who, naturally, played it to its advantage to go along with this TRAGEDY!!!!!!!!!!

I am rambing here..........those Knicks are really something!

The money was used effectively.

If, as is supposed in posting #11422, Russian politicians
were bribed to turn their horse earlier, this is the most
effective use for the US taxpayers money. A longer war
would have cost much more. Especially if the return of
those refugees who want to go home would have been
delayed till starting winter time, each and every dollar
spent would have been waisted.

Of course money going to Russia being used for
reasonable matters would be even more cost effective
for the US, when trigerring this decision !

Peace has to be won, more importantly than war.

In posting #11412 through #11422 + #11424 US money
matters most. And, surprise, I already predicted this
on 3 Jun 99 (although some other assumptions of
me were wrong) in posting #11086.

It is clear that to reach something justifiable by the NATO
actions, peace must be won. And it is clear that this will
be expensive.

From George Papadopoulos' postings it becomes
clear that much of the blame for destruction (some of it
still to come by KLA, UCK) is to be put on the NATO
strategy and tactics. (This sentence is for those
who didn't believe the previous one).

So the predictable minimization of US efforts, once the
CNN news had it in their shows that NATO has won,
poses a problem for the future.

I think US troops are important not only for money reasons
but as a guarantee for the goodwill of NATO. I think Europe,
especially Germany has made outstandingly good
experience with american troops. This record might
calm down the situation. The blame of anti-muslim bias
not only of the European Union, but also of the US
policy might be reduced when US troops are helpful in the
peacekeeping process, thus makeing middle east and gulf
politics easier for the US.
Also it should be considered that a joint action with Russian
soldiers might be helpful for a friendly future with Russia.

So dear friends, conservatives of the US of America,
although it is understandable you want to impose some
obstacles to your presidents' personal success
(as he will surely have his PR people coin it)
be sure not to save money in the wrong place.

In this problem, peace effectivity is money effectivity.

Well Yaacov, are you thinking about emigrating from Italy? <gg>
You may just have to change Italian Cloth to Made in China..<gg>

Be carefull of what you wished for :) :)

No thanks. I think in Latin the Romans used to say Ich manebo optime!
(the spelling maybe a bit off!) it means I am well here at home! gg

As for changing Italian closing for Chinese, I have no problem with Chinese mae clothing. They are sold at JC Penney and Sears! ggg "Omnia mea mecum porto!"
