I'm curious. When shorting the parent, is it usually the case that the IPO is 100% spun off? In that case it would seem obvious that the parent has to decrease in value based on what value is left behind. In TD's case where less than 10% is spun off couldn't the associated loss of 10% be offset by an increase in the value of the remaining 90%?
