Reuters, AP, and some of those are totally twisting this case in Clinton's favor. But if you read the WSJ or any even-handed publication, you'll see the press is totally playing the Gov'ts line

Much of the purpose of the government pursueing this trial is for the media to portray MSFT as the mean bully. A lot of what the government (especially the States) want is accomplished with this tactic. This is half of their goal. They are trying to break the love affair of the consumers (except computer geeks) with the company---hoping that a Microsoft hating(or fearing) consumer and corporate environment is created. An example of what they want to see was the TCI cable deal last year when the cable companies refused to give too much to MSFT (set top boxes). The government wants that caution or suspicion and "try" to get competitors to band together against MSFT---resulting in a "competitive" environment.
That is why I did not like the way MSFT fought this thing. They should have settled early. A lot of their strategy was just unnecessary and the market for their software would have shown this. I have to say that the browser in Windows was an important step but they did not need to pressure others from dropping Netscape. THe only problem with that was it makes MSFT look bad and is not ant-competitive IMHO. However, the public watching those news reports will not feel this way. Some of them will be saying---"that is not fair---beating up on poor Netscape, IBM etc".
In addition, the media has to hi-lite the negative because that is what catches peoples' interests anyways.

In any case, MSFT is doing much better this round. I just hope they have looked into all the writings and emails of their own witnesses--especially the one from AOL.
