In case anyone cares, I found this at Gamespot News:

<<Alienware Speeds to 166
Alienware revealed to GameSpot News that its Voodoo3 2000 boards will be overclocked to 166MHz from the stock 143MHz. To accommodate for the excess heat, a fan will be bundled with each unit.>>

Wonder what two Voodoo3 3000 boards overclocked to 190MHz - 200MHz would do?

Soo...

They buy out S3, and sell all the patents to pay for the acquisition? Buffet would love this move as it appears to be a clear asset play if true. The only guy with enough savy to pull off a steal like this would be Gordon Gecko...er...Campbell. A good old LBO with a quick flip just like in the 80's. If this is truly the plan then I think I've underestimated 3dfx management. They would be able to do the following in one fell swoop:

A) Gain control of important Intel (and other) licenses
B) Acquire a kickstart entry into the laptop market
C) Eliminate a major competitor from the field
D) Aquire interest in UMC and designated fab space

All this and they use S3's own assets to pay for the deal. Sounds to good to be true if you ask me. I could see NVIDIA pulling off something like this, but 3dfx's management is too...passive is the word...to make such a bold move.

Just calling 'em as I see 'em.
