I should add that the bond market is now anticipating a rate increase. If Greenspan does not increase the rate at the next meeting this would presumably cause bond investors to have a higher inflation expectation and cause the long bond to increase further above 6%. This would probably cause more disruption to the stock market than an increase in the short term rate.
