Thanks for the link to the Boston Globe article. Sounds like CMGI has wherewithal to make deals on a number of fronts. The article talks of success, but the follow through of how well the internet firms under the CMGI umbrella are turning the corner into productive business seems obscured. It sounds like the assumption is that being there is going to be an automatic going concern at some point. Hmmmm. I say ix-nay to that assumption. Usually for technological changes the guys that do it second but better reap the major rewards something like a large majority of the time. So many of the internet firms are middlemen and not technology firms that it would seem their business acumen and customer relationships are more important than the means (hardware, software, and infrastructure) to have those relationships. The easiest way to see business acumen is to have it exhibited competitively--one firm grows and its margins grow while other firms are treading water or shrinking. I have seen scant evidence on those issues. A very clouded picture at this point. Still, the public at large is wildly enthusiasm there must be a pony in there somewhere....
Best regards,
m
