Ali,

The
ESDRAM is essentially the Lx-level cache integrated
on the top of regular DRAM. You can't make all
the memory as SRAM, so the bulk of it must be
still as DRAM, with the same latency problems.


ESDRAM serves all page hits at SRAM speed. If the page hit rate is 50%, one half of all DRAM accesses are as fast as SRAM. Page misses are of course still problematic.
