The big buzzwords in e-tailing are "one-to-one selling." We've all experienced it online, but can you tell us more about it?
It's targeted marketing. One-to-one selling has been the mantra of traditional retailers for many years now. The reality is, in the traditional retail environment, it's almost impossible to achieve. It's very difficult, because you simply do not have much specific information about your customers. Even in a catalogue environment, it gets a bit difficult. But once you go online, you really do have that opportunity.

What will e-tailing look like in the year 2000?
I think 2000 is really the year that we'll start to mine the databases and see more broad-based, targeted marketing occurring. We're going to start to see people focusing more on the execution side. It won't be as much a race to drive revenues as it will be a race to drive customer purchasing levels. We'll be racing to see who can have the best site. Who's the best at picking products? Who's the best at communicating with their customers? Because at the end of the day, it's an execution game.<i/>

Somewhat of an answer...I think.
