Tony - <"Although using larger wafers is far less challenging
than other advances that the semiconductor industry
is currently wrestling with, it's still a difficult
process to implement."

It's all relative. Any 300mm program is probably going to have somebody's neck on the line.

The author maybe talking about stuff like next generation lithography and low-k dielectrics, and postulating that bringing 300mm will be easier for the industry to deal with comparatively than items such as these, as these items don't yet exhibit a clear path, or, at least, consensus, on how to proceed collectively as an industry.
