VirtualCom and USWeb/CKS Leverage NetSpeak's Intelligent Call Management for New Long Distance Network

Reinforcing its position as the market's premier provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) call management solutions, NetSpeak(R) Corporation (NASDAQ:NSPK) today announced that it has been selected by VirtualCom to provide a competitive long distance telephone and enhanced services delivery to the US and Latin America. VirtualCom's international high quality IP-based network will offer services for telephone calls to and from South America at discounted rates.
VirtualCom will utilize NetSpeak's recently announced VoIP solutions suite as the network's foundation for call flow management. In addition, VirtualCom is collaborating with USWeb/CKS, the leader in Internet and marketing communication services, to provide world-class systems integration capabilities. Initial deployment for VirtualCom's new long distance service will take place in Venezuela, Colombia, as well as New York City, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.
"We are excited about the work we are doing with VirtualCom and USWeb/CKS. This service deployment provides the perfect example of how NetSpeak's architecture offers flexibility and expandability for service providers such as VirtualCom. NetSpeak is committed to assisting start-up and established ITSPs to differentiate their services in the marketplace," said Lane Bess, NetSpeak Senior Vice President of Sales.
"VirtualCom is introducing a high quality service with the intent of meeting the growing demand for discounted long distance service to and from Latin America. Beyond this, we are building a web based platform that will enable ISPs, carriers and distributors to deliver value added capabilities to businesses throughout Latin America," said John W. Puente, President, VirtualCom. "What impressed us most about NetSpeak is their superior architecture. Because of the flexibility of the call flow management platform, and its scalability, the products are easily integrated to create a robust service offering that will revolutionize the way enhanced services are delivered over the Internet," continued Puente.
At the heart of NetSpeak's new solutions suite is the NetSpeak Gatekeeper, an H.323v2-compatible technology which controls any of NetSpeak's other Call Management products - Route Server, Media Server, Event Management Server, WebPhone(R), Mini WebPhone(tm), Gateway Exchange - and any H.323v2 interoperable edge device. In addition, it provides access to key back-end services such as billing and call detail recording. Core to this Gatekeeper technology is its flexible scripting capabilities, which dictate the call flow behavior across the multiple gateway and IP telephony devices deployed in the network. The solutions scripts are easily extensible so that new solutions and services can be introduced quickly to support evolving customer communication needs.
"NetSpeak's dynamic platform enabled us to easily integrate the back end services, like billing enhancements, and the front end interfaces for easy customer interaction, such as service subscription and provisioning. This joint effort results in VirtualCom presenting a service that is customer focused and user friendly," said Art Shectman, Service Line Leader for Voice Over Networks at USWeb/CKS. "The platform architecture is a significant differentiator for NetSpeak, and positions them well to be a market leader in VoIP solutions."
