We have all heard these stories from the days of our youth, and, suspect, as with many legends, there has been some truth in it. Today, though, far more gold consumed in burials than is reclaimed. Have you not seen all the gold handles & corners on today's top of the line caskets? As in the prior "best of times many people are trying to "take it with them". Gold & silver details were seen on coffins during prior stock market booms - just before busts.

Seems crazy to me, dig gold up, refine it, only to slam it back in the ground. (I'll dig up a link)(sorry)
