CBS Broadcasting to Call Loral Skynet's Telstar Satellite Fleet 'Home'

Another leading broadcaster joins Loral Skynet's broadcast and syndication neighborhood over North America

BEDMINSTER, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 10, 1999-- Loral Skynet today announced that CBS Broadcasting, the television programming arm of CBS Corp. (NYSE: CBS - news), has signed an agreement and is now distributing its entire North American program distribution services on Loral Skynet's Telstar satellite fleet.

''Loral Skynet's industry-renowned broadcast and syndication neighborhood on Telstar 4, 5 and 6 now welcomes CBS to its family,'' said Terry Hart, president, Loral Skynet. ''Adding CBS to the Telstar broadcast neighborhood, already anchored by ABC and FOX, firmly establishes Loral Skynet as the leading provider of satellite broadcast services for North America.''

CBS will use a total of seven C-band transponders on Telstar 6 and three C-band transponders on Telstar 4 to distribute its network programming feeds, including the entire CBS Sports(tm) NFL schedule, to its more than 200 affiliates across North America.

CBS will also use two Ku-band transponders on Loral Skynet's Telstar 6 satellite for its Newspath(tm) satellite news gathering service. CBS Newspath provides CBS affiliates, CBS News broadcasters and CBS News overseas partners with live and breaking news feeds from fixed and mobile locations throughout North America.

Loral Skynet's Telstar 6 satellite, manufactured by Space Systems/Loral and placed in service at 93 degrees W.L. in March 1999, carries a total of 52 transponders -- 24 at C-band and 28 at Ku-band. Telstar 4, placed in-service November 1995 at 89 degrees W.L., is equipped with 24 C-band and 24 Ku-band transponders. Both satellites provide coverage of the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the U. S. Virgin Islands.

Loral Skynet's 1999 launch schedule includes the launches of Telstar 7 and Orion 2. Telstar 7, scheduled for a third quarter launch, will host a strong North American cable neighborhood at its 129(degree) W.L. orbital location. Orion 2, scheduled for launch in late -1999 to 12(degree) W.L., will expand Loral Skynet's coverage into Latin America, Russia and the Middle East.
