From 6/18,99 WSJ - BMC Announces Layoffs, One-Time Charge

BMC Software Inc., Houston, said due to its acquisition of New Dimension Software Ltd. it will write off about $81 million and take a $16 million one-time charge for laying off 275 employees in the first quarter ending June 30. The business-software maker will record the $81 million as a charge to in-process research and development. In March, BMC predicted it would take a $200 million pretax charge to earnings due to its acquisition of Tel Aviv business-software developer New Dimension for $675 million. In the year-ago period, BMC had net income of $58.6 million, or 26 cents a diluted share, including $11.3 million in charges related to acquisitions, on revenue of $225.6 million. Analysts expect BMC to earn 40 cents a share in the first quarter.
