MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc. Don't look for MEMC's wafers in your pudding. MEMC Electronic Materials supplies silicon wafers to leading semiconductor makers such as Texas Instruments (20% of sales), AMD, IBM, and Samsung. The company makes wafers in sizes ranging from 4 in. to 8 in., as well as next-generation 12 in. (300 mm.) wafers. In addition to its flagship prime polished wafer, MEMC also makes epitaxial wafers (which have an added layer of single-crystal silicon) for complex chips, and wafers used to test and monitor chip-making equipment and production lines. Customers in the US account for about half of sales. German conglomerate VEBA owns 53% of the company.
