Some news...

NEW YORK, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Rare Medium Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rare
Medium Group Inc. (Nasdaq: RRRR - news) raremedium.com, and the award-winning
Internet solutions firm that produces highly-acclaimed Web and e-commerce sites, intranets, and
extranets, announced today that they are teaming with The Learning Company, a division of Mattel,
Inc. (NYSE: MAT - news) to create a dynamic interactive Web site for the Carmen Sandiego brand.
The site will officially be unveiled on September 1, 1999.

For over 15 years, Carmen Sandiego has been teaching kids about geography, history, language,
arts, and math and, in the process, has become one the most successful educational brands. What
began as an award-winning line of educational software has expanded to include three
highly-acclaimed television shows, books, games, and puzzles. This Web site will reintroduce
Carmen Sandiego in a bold, new way that will enhance the brand's overall strategy, providing the
most immersive and exciting partnership yet of adventure, technology, and education for kids 8-12
years of age.

''Rare Medium Inc. is excited to be working with educational media experts such as The Learning
Company,'' stated Dan Roddy, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Rare Medium's Los
Angeles Office. ''We have a lot of expertise in creating exciting, interactive Web sites for children,
and this partnership is a natural one.''

''Our new Carmen Sandiego site is an exciting way to bring the brand into the online space,
providing fun and immersive activities that kids and their friends can play together,'' said Andy
Young, Senior Vice President of Marketing for The Learning Company. ''We're excited to partner
with Rare Medium to develop a truly innovative and safe online experience for kids that will extend
the fun of the Carmen Sandiego experience.''

The online experience will be designed to leverage all the fun and excitement of the CD-ROM series,
while utilizing the unique capabilities of the Internet. A ''Where on the Web is Carmen Sandiego?''
game will be the centerpiece of the Web site where kids will be challenged to use their deductive
reasoning to capture Carmen Sandiego. As special agents of the ACME Detective Agency, kids will
embark on missions to track down the devious Carmen Sandiego and her cohorts, collecting clues
and learning about the world (and the Internet) to solve the case. Each case will contain clues that will
transport the child to safe educational links that will help kids get one step closer to answering the
question, ''Where on the Web is Carmen Sandiego?'' In addition to providing a host of other
entertaining and activities for kids, the site will become a valuable resource tool for parents and
teachers.
