The first DVD players were a grand.
Oh and weren't the first DBS systems a grand?.

Remember this line? "People won't buy DVD players because the don't record"
Now we'll hear "People won't buy TiVo players because they don't record to removable media"

Once others start to manufacture the Tivo or Replay boxes you'll see the price cut in half.
It's not the boxes Tivo will make money on, it's the service.

Same as DirecTV's, Dish's or WebTV's business models.
