Zoom Telephonics To Introduce Advanced Cable
Modem Line with Simplified Installation and
No-New-Wires Networking At NCTA Show

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 1999--

Zoom Broadband Solution Includes Wireless LAN and Home PNA Options

Zoom Telephonics today announced it will exhibit its advanced cable modem
technology for the first time at the NCTA Cable '99 show in Chicago. Zoom is applying
years of consumer product expertise to its new line of cable modems.

Zoom's cable modems are designed to minimize field service calls and provide easy
hardware installation by residential users rather than cable company technicians. Zoom
cable modems can be installed without the need to open a computer. Using a Universal
Serial Bus (USB) interface, Plug and Play, and a software installation wizard for
configuration, the external cable modems are easily plugged into a computer's USB port.
A 10BaseT Ethernet interface is also provided for installation in machines without a
USB port.

Zoom's cable modem technology also supports DOCSIS 1.1 and a variety of local area
networking (LAN) options. The LAN options provide distribution of cable modem data
without the need to install new wires in a home or small business.

Zoom's cable modem line includes both Home Phoneline Networking and
standards-based wireless networking options. The Home Phoneline Networking option
allows the modem to be plugged into any RJ-11 phone jack in the home to distribute
data to any Home PNA enabled PC in the house. Another option allows users to share
the cable modem wirelessly by inserting a ZoomAir wireless network interface card into
the PC Card slot provided on the front of the Zoom cable modem. Zoom is currently
shipping both Zoom/HomeLAN Home Phoneline Networking cards and ZoomAir 802.11
DSSS standard wireless networking cards.

"Our cable modems feature industry-leading ease of installation and use," said Frank
Manning, President of Zoom Telephonics. "Users can put their high-speed modem
anywhere the cable enters the home and distribute the data to one or more PCs. They
can even use their laptops to wirelessly access the Internet while they sit on their patio
or couch."

"Industry analysts report more than 20 million U.S. homes have more than one
computer. The market will demand cable modems with flexible local area networking
options," Manning continued.

Other features of the Zoom cable modem include:

--Web Manage(TM) software , which allows configuration and support of the cable
modem over the network using any Web browser.

--Remote software upgrades.

--DOCSIS 1.1 support, including: 56 bit Data Encryption Security (DES) to support
baseline privacy, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), and Quality of Service
(QOS) for traffic prioritization and bandwidth management.

--Advanced networking, including Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP), and
Network Address Translation (NAT).

Zoom Telephonics plans to begin shipping its cable modems in the fourth quarter of
1999. The cable modems will be sold through Zoom retailers, Value Added Resellers and
cable service providers.

Zoom will show its cable modem at booth number 5333, McCormick Place Exhibition
Center, Chicago, Illinois on June 14, 15 and 16.

Zoom Telephonics, a communications leader since 1977, designs, produces and markets
modems, Wireless LAN products, ISDN products, and other products that link people
and their personal computers through the world's largest network, the international
telephone network, and connected networks including the Internet and corporate local
area networks. According to Personal Technology Research, Zoom is the number two
brand of analog modems at retail in the U.S.

Zoom Telephonics is publicly traded on NASDAQ (NASDAQ:ZOOM). Zoom products
are produced in Boston, Massachusetts and sold worldwide.
