Meanwhile, the 3dfx/S3 rumour is being played down by both companies.

This was on Vodooxtreme:
"I just got off the phone with PAUL CROSSLEY, the PR Manager at S3, Inc. who said the following: The register has probably better sources than he does, as he is not aware of such an acquisition/takeover. If you have been following the news in the past year, you must have noticed that is has been rumored that S3 was acquired by AMD, Intel and many others. All rumors - nothing more."

And this is from Maximum PC:
3dfx officials said the company has no plans to S3, a competing graphics chip maker.

"It's an unsubstantiated rumor," a 3dfx official told Maximum PC. Rumors that 3dfx planned to buy S3 surfaced on UK tech site, The Register, which said 3dfx wanted access to several of S3's patents.
