(Joke, but true.)

No,
They don't melt Eagles...
KRands for a while were out of style and some people used them as scrap. Good for small jewelry makers etc. They say dentists can use a dime and a KR and come up with the proper mix for bridges etc. Only thing I've seen dentists do over the years is sort of buy them for inventory and then they kind of dissapear into their private holdings instead of into mouths.. heh..
Scratched or damaged krummy looking bullion coins too fall into the melting pot..

Hi Investor 2; My pick for gold bullion coins right now are the early 20th century European gold standard bullion. They sell for very close to melt, they're beautiful, and since they are "collector's items" you don't have to go through a lot of rigamarole when you sell them.

One of my buddies is planning on setting up a jewelry casting party. The guests get wax, and make ring molds. Then the wax is replaced with gold using the lost wax technique. It is his intention to use coin gold as the source, probably K-Rands. Right now, he is having a bit of a cash flow problem (caused by a woman, of course,) and the plans for this party are therefore on hold...
