Over government objections, Microsoft performed a live computer demonstration in the courtroom to rebut Felten's claim that a program he devised removed Internet Explorer from Windows 98 without disabling the operating system. I'm actually glad they finally got the theatrics right after the dreadful video fiascos in the main case. I figure Felton's argument that IE can be easily disabled is the weakest part of the government's case. The "My Computer" window uses browser components. IE is integrated. I agree with Microsoft's argument that Felton is just plain wrong to say that the integration is somehow easily undone. I still don't understand why Boies and the gang made his claim such an major part of their case, especially since they could make their case (as they tried to do in the morning testimony) without the disabling claim. But they did feature the disabling argument prominently in the main case so today's demonstration weakens the DOJ case -- not critically, but significantly.
