Just discovered it's in print - #reply-10073976 ... last time i tried to order it was at least two years ago ... quite literate and travelled friends of mine in and near Palenque, Chis have never heard of it ... it may never have been translated into spanish, but should be .... it's Greene's only non-fiction work of which i am aware, the true story of how he checked out the state of the catholic church [very oppressed under the Calles government, they were shooting priests] in Chiapas in 1938 under the guise of wanting to visit the ruinas at Palenque .... excellent story, he's on board a stinky little coaster boat going from Veracruz to the mouth of the Grijalva when the Pemex nationalisacion is announced, and watches the longshoremen unload bales of obviously aged propaganda leaflets when the boat docks ... great descriptions of places and life in the area at the time [there wasn't in fact much for roads] .... in early editions there was even a map of the finca closest to the ruinas, and the name of the people, which slips my mind just now, is well known to the locals [well duh] .... i don't have my own copy, and want at least four for friends, so i am about to make my first online purchase ever ... right now .... cheers
