My 100 shares can turn into many hundred's of shares until they wind up in cash accounts, where they become unavailable.<< matrix, thanks for that explanation. question. if the last buyer in your chain puts the shares in a cash account, does that cause a ripple effect and force each shorter using those shares to buy or cover? unclewest feel free to disagree with me about anything at anytime.

Thank Matrix_Man. Let me say that I also hold unclewest in high esteeem; he has gotten many kudos here, but mine is perhaps coming late; he is a wealth of information to the thread. He convinced me solidly about Rambus. Unfortunately, I did a trade, and now, second time around, only have 1/2 at much higher prices :-( My only point of contention was the short shares calculation. Appreciate your explanation. Clearly you understand this things deeply, because you live in that hidden reality, the Matrix, right? :-) (Gotta see that movie) George
