Humans have several things that distinguish themselves from all lower forms of life - opposable thumbs and intelligence being the two most common cited items. The ability of people to laugh through adversity should never be confused with scorn of the situation. What happens in a marriage is a direct relationship to what the two people involved - and the others around them - put into a marriage.

If a couple wants to make it work then it will work. Once the people involved decide not to make it work then it will stop working.

Humor is (as they say) the best medicine. I think this thread is more about the humor of life than actually making fun of the institution of marriage. Who knows though, I have been wrong before...

"Similarly, most people get the marriages they deserve."

Not always true. It takes two to make a marriage work. Time, situations, all sorts of things put stress on a marriage, and one person cannot keep it going.
