Bateman: You are right but herein lies the problem with the US market. It is totally manipulated by these events. CPI? How does that effect PFE or the market for that matter? CPI up inflation concerns Fed raises rates or so the common wisdom goes. The bond market is already over 6% and Fed funds are at 4.75% so inflation is already factored in. If the Fed raises rates by 1/4 then we have a smaller spread - so what!

We have been manipulated into watching these numbers by the talking heads of CNN,Bloomberg,CNBC,et al (as well as the internet wannabes) because it makes the generation of "news events" simple for these broadcast simpletons. The bad part about it all is that a lot of folks put a lot of faith in these numbers. Ask yourself have you seen any real inflation and how is that going to effect (if at all) what I hold in my portfolio today.

The overdependence on these macro economic numbers causes market swings that indeed exagerate greatly market swings providing selling and buying opportunities.

As someone suggested we should do our homework (as should the anal-ists) and rely less on the Joe Kernans (is he awake) of the world. The scary thing is that these talking head bozos have so much power. In fact they are right behind AG the other guy that people pay too much attention to. JFD
